Benefits of Therapeutic Riding
Physical
The gait of the horse has three dimensions; side to side, forward and backward, and up and down. The movement engages a wide range of muscles and stimulates powerful brain activity.
Social/emotional
Working with animals helps children develop emotional control. Animals, especially horses, are very sensitive to our behavior and emotions. They require that we remain calm and in control emotionally. This teaches children to regulate their emotions and develop self control and healthy expression that will carry over and benefit them in every situation.
Educational
When we work with a horse, we learn to assume the leadership role. In order to develop our riding, we must learn to listen carefully, focus on instruction, recall what we have learned, and more.
